Softphones

Softphone definition: an application that enables a desktop, laptop or workstation computer to function as a telephone via Voice over IP technology that uses the cables of a computer network as the medium for transmitting telephone service. Equipped with a headset or a hand-held device, and using the numbers on the keyboard to dial, the computer with soft phone software can perform the full range of telephone features available through traditional systems, such as teleconferencing and call forwarding.

A flexible choice for mobile workers, SoftPhone extends the capabilities of your desktop extension to your computer - even over wireless networks. Mobile workers can enjoy transparent access to enterprise telephony features while on the road.

Softphone Application

Using a hotel or airport provided wireless internet access, for instance, the softphone allows the mobile worker to securely gain access back into their company's phone system, turning their laptop computer into their company's desk phone. All functionality associated with their desk phone remains with the softphone. They can even answer all inbound calls to the company's main number remotely with the softphone, anywhere with highspeed internet access. The mobile worker can also remotely pick up dial-tone from the company's office and make any outbound out of the company's phone system.
